The joint project "Religion and Gender Equality Balticand Nordic Developments" has been underway for a little over a year now. On February 10-11, a hybrid working meeting of research groups from the universities of Tartu, Latvia, Vilnius, and Oslo took place in Riga.
According to Anne Kull, the head of the project's Estonian research group and professor of systematic theology, the cooperation so far has taken place mainly via the Internet: "For example, in May last year, there was an online seminar on methodology. Some Latvian and Estonian researchers also dared to participate in the hybrid conference of the Sociological Research Committee of the International Sociological Association in Vilnius in November."
More participants in the project were already present in Riga, but not all. The first task was to report on the current doings and initial conclusions, which, according to Anne Kull, received recognition from the Lithuanian Scientific Committee on the first day of the meeting as well. "However, it was a greater pleasure to meet colleagues and hear what were they doing. Our doctoral student Anastasiia Babash also took part in the meeting and gave a presentation on the ambiguity of the concept of gender equality from a philosophical perspective."
Anne Kull lists the results of the research so far:
According to Anne Kull, it is good to move forward from these results: "Future publications and participation in conferences were discussed in Riga. The next major event is the EASR conference in Cork at the end of June."
The project will end in 31. December 2023, more information about the project can be found on its website.
